Release notes

The CD has been manufactured in the UK, in 1985, by NIMBUS pressing plant. This is the very first pressing CD of this album for the UK market. The catalogue number of this CD release is GECD 2001. The CD was released under Virgin / Charisma label and distributed across the UK via Virgin Records LTD. distribution channel.

Two disc set album was released with double CD box including booklet with lyrics. The album has been recorded live, in 1977, and both CDs are mastered form analogue tapes (AAD). There is a small print in the booklet, as well as on the front and rear sleeve: This Compact Disc is not digitally recorded.

Artwork has been printed in the UK. The lyrics are printed, inside the booklet in a strange way in two columns. There is no barcode on rear sleeve. Front insert has cropped photo of the band performing live on stage.

Both CDs are silver with black text. Compact Disc logo is in large print, which very typical for early Virgin CDs. There is no country of manufacture present on discs. The same catalogue numbers are printed on both CDs, but the UK version has "DISC 1" and "DISC 2" printed on the label. Both CDs are housed in a double box packaging.

It should also be noted that both CDs has been manufactured with a flaw that makes the label side of each disc very "sticky".

The disc label note:

Early Nimbus CDs had often suffer from a "sticky label" issue. It means that due to manufacturing error as well as the incorrect storage the CD label became very sticky over the years. That said, the CD easy collect dust and fingerprints. If your CD suffer from the issue, it is a very important to leave it as it is.

An attempt of cleaning the CD, with a soft cloth or a water or anything else may damage your disc by peel of the protective layer. The best option is to leave it as it is.

The matrix numbers of discs are:

Disc one: GECD 2001/1 • MASTERED BY NIMBUS
Disc two: GECD 2001/2 • MASTERED BY NIMBUS

The matrix numbers note:

The early Nimbus discs have often "Nimbus England" or sometimes "Mastered by Nimbus" in the matrix ring. In my opinion, the very first pressing Nimbus discs of "Seconds Out" were released with "Mastered by Nimbus" print and one to two dots in the matrix ring.

I have never seen discs with "Nimbus England" print for this album. Later reissues (from 1986-1987) have often more dots in the matrix area. I would also say that mentioned dots represents use of a given mastering/glass master.

Some examples:
  • One dot = first glass master created and use to manufacture of a given disc
  • Two dots = second glass master created (for a various reasons) and use to manufacture of a given disc
  • Three dots = third glass master created (for a various reasons) and use to manufacture of a given disc
  • Four and five dots = probably the last glass master discs created to manufacture of a given disc

The CD was on sale in the UK, but sometimes can also be found in Germany, where was later distributed by Ariola Services. These CDs were on the UK market since early 1985 and not for long time. There is also a variation of this CD with manufacturer statement printed on disc.

I would say this copy is not common and required searching, but there are still some copies around.

Disc variation

There is also a variation of this CD. For more information, please see Variant B entry.
