Release notes

This entry showing a variation of the very first West Germany Polygram pressing CD of "Genesis" 1983 album. Variant A is presented in different entry.

This is a very minor, but interesting variation. Originally, the CD has been released without a barcode on the rear insert. However, presented copy in this entry has a stickered barcode on the back of the jewel case. This copy was probably sold by HMV shop, between 1986 and 1987. I assume that distributors still had unsold copies lying around and eventually they decided to send it to shops.

In 1984 and possibly early 1985, when this CD was on sale many shops don't use barcodes as often. In 1986 and later this has changed, however and the big music shops rely on the barcoding system.

Because supplied copies does not have barcode, the record company has added a sticker barcode on the back of the jewel case. This was a common practice by Virgin Records. Most, if not all of these copies where sold by HMV shops. How many? I have no clue, but it can't be lot.

Stickered copies are very hard to locate. I have other Virgin CDs with such barcodes and I must admit, I only have seen a few. If you are archiver and things like barcodes, stickers, numbers etc are in your interests, this copy is a challenge. The copy I have, which is in only in fair condition, is the only one I have seen for the last 7 years.

I should also point out that the sticker numbers are not match the later Virgin barcode numbers of this album. This is someting very unique.

Disc variation

There is also a variation of this CD (without barcode). For more information, please see Variant A entry.
