Release notes

The CD has been manufactured in West Germany, in 1984, but released in the UK. This is the very first pressing CD of this album for the UK market. The disc is manufactured by PolyGram plant in Langenhagen, near Hanover.

The catalogue number of this issue is GEN CD1. The CD was released under Virgin / Charisma label and distributed across the UK via Virgin Records LTD. distribution channel.

The disc has a pale blue label. Virgin and Charisma logo is present on the label. Note that Compact Disc logo is in large. There is no country of manufacture present on the label. The matrix numbers are 814 287-2 01, which means the CD has been manufactured from the same glass master used to manufacture Charisma CD (Reference: 814 287-2). The CD come with smooth edges jewel case, but I have also seen some copies online that were supplied with ribbed edges jewel case.

For some reasons artwork has been printed by Kaiser and not by the PolyGram. This is another company that cooperate with Polygram in the early days of CD development. There is no barcode present on rear insert. Printed in West Germany (in a different font) has been added on the bottom.

The CD was on sale in the UK, but sometimes can be found in Germany (not often). These CDs where on the UK market until early 1985, so presumably around a year, and  quickly replaced by later Nimbus domestic pressings.

Apparently, in the mid to late 1980s, Virgin distributors done stock clearance and this CD was on sale with a stickered barcode on the back of the jewel case. For more details check this entry.

I would say this copy is not an easy to locate, but there are still some copies around. Because this is an early West Germany pressing, with so-called "Blue Face" label and was highly sought after by collectors, the CD may not be cheap (depending of the condition, of course).

Disc variation

There is also a minor variation of this CD (with stickered barcode). For more information, please see Variant B entry.
