➦ Genesis: Genesis (1983) - CD releases

GENERAL NOTES

Produced by Genesis and Hugh Padgham. Engineere By Hugh Padgham. All songs written by Genesis.

Recorded and Mixed at the Farm, Surrey, 1983.

SHORT FACTS

Genesis album on the CD was released by the three record labels:

  • Virgin/Charisma (UK and Europe) (CD Reference: GEN CD1)
  • Atlantic Recording Corp. (USA and Canada)(CD Reference U.S: 7 80116-2, Canada: CD 80116)
  • Vertigo (Germany and central Europe) (CD Reference: 814 287-2)

The first CD releases of "Genesis" appeared in the early 1984. The first release of this album on the CD was issued by Vertigo Records (in Germany) and Virgin/Charisma (in the UK).

In the United States "Genesis" has also been issued in a CD long box packaging. For more information please click here.

Please note that In the UK first CD releases of the album were released along side with Vertigo Records, but under Virgin/Charisma label.

As far as I know the first domestic Japanese CD of "Genesis" was manufactured no earlier than 1989. Until then all the CDs were imported from Europe, particularly from Germany, and supplied with Japanese lyric sheets and an OBI.

The first Japanese domestic CD (Reference: PPD-3038) was distributed by Nippon Phonogram Co., Ltd. The label was based in Tokyo and controlled the distribution across Japan. The disc is silver and has a blue swirl graphics on the label. Later years brought another releases. All Japanese CD releases are sourced from European CDs. There's no hidden mastering of this album and, as far as I know, the CD has not been remastered until 1999.

PLEASE NOTE:

Releases of this album after year 1999 are not presented. My collection of this album ends on the late 1990s releases. I also do not collect the remastered editions of the album.

SINGLES

Originally the album has not been promoted by CD singles. In 1988 Virgin Records, in the UK, has released the series of 3-inch CD singles in a cardboard sleeve packaging. Among 40 titles was Genesis "Mama" CD single (CD Reference: CDT 5) which seem to be the very first CD single that refers to the album.

In 1992, German Phonogram behind of Vertigo Records, has released a maxi single of "Mama" (CD Reference: 866 599-2). The maxi single contains 3 tracks, whereas the Virgin "mini" single contain only two tracks. For more details about German "Mama" CD single, please click here.
