➦ Genesis: ABACAB (1981) - CD releases

GENERAL NOTES

Produced by Genesis.

Engineered and mixed by Hugh Padgham.

Recorded and mixed at The Farm, Surrey.

SHORT FACTS

ABACAB on the CD was released by the three record labels:

  • Virgin/Charisma (U.K., Europe) (CD Reference UK: CBRCD 102)
  • Vertigo Records (Germany and central Europe) (CD Reference: 800 044-2)
  • Atlantic Recording Corporation (USA and Canada) (CD Reference U.S: 19313-2, Canada: CD 19313)

The first CD releases appeared in late 1982. The first release of this album on the CD was issued by Vertigo Records.

In the United States "ABACAB" has also been issued in a CD longbox packaging. For more information please click here.

Please note that the UK Virgin/Charisma CD releases contain incorrect production date stated on the rear insert. The misprint appears on all "ABACAB" CD releases issued in the 1980s.

Please also note that the colour scheme of the ABACAB" CD cover art originally has been issued with three colour variations;

  • Variant A : Yellow, Orange, Green, Dark Gray (Japanese CD release)
  • Variant B : Light Gray, Yellow, Navy Blue, Maroon (UK and European CD releases)
  • Variant C : Light Blue, Orange, Light Green, Fading Red (Atlantic CD releases)

As far as I know, domestic Japanese pressings of "ABACAB" were manufactured no earlier than 1989. Until then all the CDs were imported from Europe, particularly from Germany and supplied with Japanese lyric sheets and an OBI. Discs were manufactured by the West German PolyGram factory.

The first Japanese domestic made CDs were distributed by Nippon Phonogram Co., Ltd. The label based in Tokyo and control the distribution across Japan.

There were only two Japanese CD releases until 1995, where the music has not been remastered. Mastering for this CDs was taken from the UK Virgin/Charisma releases although the Japanese discs were marked with Vertigo/Phonogram logo.

PLEASE NOTE:

Further releases of this album after year 1999 are not presented. My collection of this album ends on the late 1990s releases. I also do not collect the remastered editions of the album.

SINGLES

This album has never been promoted by the CD single. Originally the album was released on vinyl and cassette tapes in 1981 and promoted by vinyl singles.
