Release notes

This is the the variation of the first West German CD pressing for UK that is presented in Variant A entry. This CD has been released, in my opinion, sometime between very late 1983 and early 1984. There are some significant differences in this CD.

The CD is released by Virgin Records and was distributed, within the UK, via Virgin distribution. The catalogue number of this CD is CDV2252. Please note a lack of space between digits and letters. The is how the CD was released.

The disc has a pale blue label, also known as "Blue Face", with a black text on it. Compact Disc logo is in large, on the left, whilst STEREO is printed beneath the catalogue numbers. The disc is silvered to the center. There is no difference in the label.

Jewel case side

The CD has been released with ribbed-sided jewel case and without a barcode. In Variant A, inserts were printed in West Germany by Neef.  In this release, only booklet has West German markings. Rear sleeve does not say where is printed. Also the colour of the rear sleeve is different to the one from Variant A.

Variant A Variant B

Rear sleeve colour difference.

Difference in colour of the sleeve suggest different printing company. Note that whole sleeve has the same colour shade and this include wings (spine).
I speculate that rear sleeve was supplied by Nimbus facilities. Early Nimbus pressings have such sleeve combination. Perhaps the CD was issued, in early 1984, just before Nimbus have pressed the first batch of Hello, I Must Be Going!?

Mechanically etched letters

The matrix numbers of the disc are CDV 2252 2893 008 03 AJ. Note that, mechanically etched, AJ is not present on disc from Variant A release. That make sense. Such letters are not present on PolyGram discs from early 1983. They start adding an extra letters in first half of 1984, and continue to do so until late 1980s. An extra letters, in the matrix area, likely means repress.

My copy is the only example I have seen, so I would say this CD is rare.

Disc variation

There is a variation of this CD, with difference in matrix and inserts, please check variant A entry for more details.
