Release notes

This CD has been released a little bit later than variant A, but still is considered as the first UK domestic pressing of "Face Value". The disc is manufactured by Nimbus plant and the CD was released by Virgin Records Ltd. The catalogue number of this release is CDV 2185.

The disc is silver with a red text label. The disc coating in this variant is more yellow compare to variant A. There is no country of manufacture present on label. The Compact Disc logo is in large and "STEREO" is printed underneath, just as in previous variant. The matrix numbers of the disc are CDV 2185 : NIMBUS ENGLAND. Two dots, in the matrix string, means that second glass master was created (for a various reasons) and used to manufacture of a given disc.

The first UK Nimbus CDs of "Face Value" were released without a barcode on rear insert. This copy has no barcode, but was manufactred and released later than variant A disc, but no longer than early 1985. Inserts were still printed in the UK and the West German manufacturing notes has not been removed.

The CD has been released with a ribbed-sided jewel case. I have seen many copies of this release and I have never seen one with smooth- sided jewel case. It is definitely a later pressing CD. Although various facilities used various packaging, but yet again I have not seen this variant packed in a smooth-sided jewel case.

It seems like this CD variant was manufactured in much more quantities than previous one. In August 1984, when Nimbus plant began to manufacture CDs their orders were relatively small. By 1985 the plant increased their capacity and gradually start pressing more discs. This would explain why this variant is more common.

top corner

Please note there is a minor difference in booklet in between two variants. If you look closely on top right corner, of the last page booklet, you'll be able to see a catalogue number printed on top. This minor difference is not present in variant A release.

Nimbus disc label note:

I think it is very important that any holder of early Nimbus CDs should be consider a special care of these discs. A large number of early, most from 1984 and early 1985, Nimbus pressed CDs had often suffer from a "sticky label" problem. What is it means though?

Well, It means that due to a manufacturing error, as well as an incorrect storage, the top surface of the CD label became "sticky" over the years. That said, the CD easy collect dust and fingerprints. If your CD suffer from the issue, it is a very important to leave it as it is. An attempt of cleaning the CD, with a soft cloth or a water may damage your disc by peel of the protective layer. The CDs from this entry are also affected.

I would say this CD is more common than variant A, but yet again Nimbus discs are prone to top coating damage, so not many discs survived since 1984. This CD need some searching, but the purchase price should be very low.

Disc variation

No variation that I know of. Please see variant A entry of this release.
