Release notes

This entry showing the USA long box CD issue of "Face Value" album. These long boxes were distributed only in the USA. You can't buy them elsewhere. The long box is made of a recycling cardboard and measured 31,5 cm high, 14,5 cm width and 1,2 cm thick.

Presented example still has an original shrink rap with a hyper sticker on front announcing "In The Air Tonight". Compact Disc is printed on the top left corner. The front of the long box showing an album cover with small Atlantic logo on the bottom. The catalogue number printed on the flaps, spine and rear is 16029-2. The rear side of the long box showing Phil's drawing board, information about the artist and a big CD logo. The outer shrink wrap has a round sticker saying "Disc manufactured in Japan". There is no barcode on this long box.

The CD that came with the long box is manufactured in Japan by JVC plant. Artwork is printed in the USA. Front insert has additional European catalogue number on the last page. Please not that the title from the insert has been removed. The cover on the long box showing an artwork with the title on top.

The CD spine also has the European catalogue numbers printed on it. The CD came with smooth edges jewel case (with flat bar stoppers). Disc has "MADE IN JAPAN" printed on the bottom edge. The matrix numbers are "16029 - 2R - U 1 C 3 2". Rear artwork does have barcode.

Regarding the matrix numbers, the letter "R" may represents a reissue, but this is not the rule. I only have seen just a few discs, with similar matrix numbers, that came with the long box. I presume the whole release was issued this way.

This type of long box is the only example of the long box that I have seen. In the very early stage of long box era some long boxes were issued with die-cut window on front. I have never seen "Face Value" long box as such. Perhaps exists, but I never seen it.

This is an example of Japanese early long box of "Face Value". I am not entire sure how this was done, but I presume the whole set was manufactured in Japan and exported for sale in the USA somewhere around late 1985 to early 1986. Correct me if I am wrong.

I don't think many of these long boxes survived, therefore I consider the complete release being a very hard to find these days.

Long box variation

There is no long box variation that I know off. There might be different CD matrix variants.
