What is a price code? |
A price code is a kind of code which is sometimes
present on releases issued in Europe. The price code
is not a catalogue number nor distribution number. It is
a certain code that helps define a CD price. Back in 1980s, shops and
distributors used their catalogue guide to establish price for a given
disc. Price codes eliminate mistakes and helps establish an origin of
a CD distributor.
Price codes often consists of two letters and three digits i.e. WE 835. "WE"
is a prefix from WEA, the record label. An example of this code is
presented below.
